The Department of Ophthalmology provides students with the theoretical and clinical foundation to understand and manage eye diseases and visual impairments. The department integrates ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology with a practical approach to diagnosis and treatment. Students are trained in visual acuity testing, refraction, slit-lamp examination, fundus evaluation, and minor surgical techniques. They are also sensitized to common preventable causes of blindness and the importance of early intervention and community eye screening programs. The department plays a pivotal role in equipping future doctors with the knowledge and skills to preserve and restore vision.
